Get it from other libraries (ILL)

What is Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?

If you cannot find a book, journal (article), or any other type of document within our own collection, but it is available at a library outside Ghent University, you may request it through the Resource Sharing service (ILL). This service enables you to obtain publications from libraries both within Belgium and abroad.

You may request that an entire book be delivered, or alternatively, ask for a PDF copy of a specific article or chapter. Full ebooks are not available for interlibrary loan.

How does it work?

The catalogue allows you to include records from other libraries. If you search lib.ugent.be and then find an item without UGent access in your search results, you will see a button labeled “Request from other libraries”. Click on this button to display the ILL request button on the details page.

If you're searching via a database, you can use the (Access @)UGent-button to go to the full text of the article. If Ghent University does not have access to the article, you can use this button to request a copy from another library.

You can make a manual ILL-request with the Resource Sharing Request form.

Prices

ILL is free of charge for all holders of a UGent account. For other users holding a library card an ILL delivery fee of € 10 applies.

Libraries and external users wishing to request a document from the University Library’s collection may contact libservice@ugent.be. The fee is €25, payable by invoice. Payment by IFLA vouchers is also accepted.
