Digitized card catalogue

Until 1985, the library collections were registered on catalogue cards. Since then, all acquisitions have been added to a database. The contents of the cards has been added gradually to the database and website.

A large section of the historic collection is still only avalaible through the card catalogue. All cards have been scanned and books can be requested online. Through character recognition (OCR), the cards are searchable. Particularly, automatic character recognition processes are not flawless.

Every request through the card catalogue leads to augmented data in lib.ugent.be.

  • Every addition or correction of the information (location, year of publication, author, title...) you can provide with the request, will speed up the processing of your request.

  • There is also a browse application available, Catfich, where you can peruse the card catalogue in the same way you would have in front of the catalogue trays.

  • A green strip across the card is an indicator of the collections of the former "seminars". These locations use their former GUS-codes, you can crossreference the new library code in this list.
